So you and your partner decided to skip the big wedding and having an intentional and laid-back elopement in Colorado. First we want to say a massive congratulations!!! Now it’s time to plan all of the fun things that come with choosing to elope in Colorado, like finding your elopement location. With so many jaw-dropping locations to pick from all around the state, how do you choose?! That’s where we come in! In this blog I’ll talk about the top three best places to elope in Colorado.
Summit County
Starting out strong in one of my all time favorite elopement spots in Colorado – Summit County! Summit County includes Breckenridge, Frisco, Silverthorne, Keystone, Dillon, and Copper Mountain. It is one of the best places to elope in Colorado year round!
Reasons Why Summit County is one of the Best Places to Elope in Colorado
- Year round availability. There is something to do in every season in Summit County. In the wintertime you basically have your own personal snow globe! There are endless snowshoeing trails, ski hills, and incredible views! Plus, imagine having a super snowy, gorgeous elopement in the mountains and then coming back to your Airbnb for a nice soak in a hot tub while overlooking a ski hill. This is all possible in the wintertime! Looking for a little wintertime Summit County inspiration? Check out Becca and Dan’s snowshoeing elopement!
- Summer in Summit County is probably the best that there is! July in Summit County means the most incredible display of wildflowers you could ever imagine. Plus, the weather is fantastic, there are festivals and activities, everything is super green, and the towns are buzzing.
- Fall in Summit County = Leaf peeping galore! It’s true that Colorado has some of the most spectacular displays of yellow aspen trees in the fall. If you want to catch those golden colors, mid to late September is going to be the perfect time to elope in Summit County! Plus, the weather is literally perfect in the fall!
- There is something for everyone here. No matter what your skill level is, there is something for everyone here. Whether you’d like to walk 50 feet to get to your elopement location or if a strenuous 8 mile hike is up your alley, and anything in between, you can find all of that in Summit County. Plus, there are several reservable locations if you want to include more family or friends in your wedding celebration. Here is a list of our favorite small wedding venues in Colorado that you can reserve for your elopement!
- The perfect jumping off point! Summit County is only about an hour west of Denver, about two hours to Aspen, and a little under two hours from Rocky Mountain National Park, Granby, Winter Park, etc. making Summit County an incredible jumping off point for your elopement adventure! You can get an Airbnb in Summit County and really explore some of the coolest corners of Colorado.
- Tons of activities. Endless hiking, fishing, horseback riding, mountain coasters, free gondola rides in Breckenridge, mountain biking, off-roading, kayaking, rafting, dog sledding, snowshoeing, skiing…the list goes on and on! You can totally incorporate an activity or two during your elopement!
- Close to Denver International Airport. Another perk of choosing to elope in Summit County is that you are about an hour away from Denver International Airport, making it super easy to access! Plus, there are tons of awesome Airbnb’s all over Summit County.
I could truly go on and on about how great Summit County is! The food is great, the environment is amazing, there is so much to do, plus it’s gorgeous?! I mean, talk about the perfect package!

I know, I know, when you think about eloping in Colorado I bet that Northern Colorado was not on the top of your list for an elopement location. I’m here to tell you not to sleep on Northern Colorado, it is by far one of the best elopement locations in Colorado!
First of all, what do I mean by Northern Colorado? The state is huge, so this is a valid question. To me, Northern Colorado means Boulder, Estes Park, Fort Collins, and Steamboat Springs. This covers a massive area, I mean, Rocky Mountain National Park alone has thirteen designated ceremony sites and endless portrait opportunities.
