Breckenridge, Colorado turns into a snowglobe in the wintertime, making it one of the best destinations for your winter elopement! We love how the state transforms into a snow filled playground during the winter months, lending so many fun activities to include in your winter elopement like snowshoeing, skiing, snowmobiling, and even dog sledding.
Chris and Rachel decided to take advantage of the absolutely crazy amount of snow we received and go for a snowshoeing elopement in the gorgeous mountains of Breckenridge! They opted for a bigger elopement package (which we totally recommend if you want to see multiple locations!) allowing them to explore three different areas around Summit County.
Rachel and Chris (and their adorable pup, Pudge) had a snowball fight first look at one of our favorite places! We love when couples incorporate little things from their relationship into their wedding, like throwing a snowball at Chris for the first look! It was the perfect way for them to have their first look. It was so Chris and Rachel!
After some portraits at this first location, we hit the road and headed towards their ceremony spot. When we got to their ceremony site we were greeted with snow dusted pine trees, the warm sunshine on our faces, and a completely people-free location. A perfect recipe for the ultimate private and intimate ceremony.
The Ceremony
After the first look location, we headed to their ceremony spot. It is one of our favorite places in Colorado because of its year round accessibility, gorgeous mountain and lake views, and how close it is to town without feeling like you’re right in town. And in the winter time, this spot turns into a winter wonderland. It just checks all of the boxes! The perfect spot for a winter elopement in Breckenridge, Colorado!
They strapped on their snowshoes and started trekking down the trail. We snowshoed around until we found the perfect spot. After a few deep breaths and taking in the phenomenal backdrop, they exchanged the most heartfelt and personal vows. Expressing their love in the most sincere way possible.
Not only did Chris and Rachel exchange the sweetest of vows, but they also had a ton of fun! They laughed, cried, and were goofy. They were completely themselves on their wedding day and it was such a joy to document!
I say this every time, but I will cry at your elopement! I often do not hear the words that are exchanged, as I am focused on getting the shots, being in the right place, and making sure I am getting everything I need to tell your story, but I always feel the sentiment behind the words. Chris and Rachel expressed a lot of tenderness and love through their vows, and that is a really beautiful experience.
We have found that eloping truly gives couples a safe and private space to pour their hearts out to each other. No judgment. No pressure to say anything or hold anything back. Completely raw and vulnerable. It is probably our favorite thing about eloping! Couples can just breathe a sigh of relief and be completely and utterly themselves on one of the best days of their lives.
Post Ceremony Exploration
After Chris and Rachel’s emotional ceremony, we explored the area for additional portraits. We truly got so lucky on this day! Wintertime in Colorado can be wildly unpredictable but we were met with sunshine and no wind. That allowed us to stay out longer and really take advantage of the gorgeous weather we were having for their portraits!
After hiking around this area we headed to yet another favorite location of ours. Rachel chose to honor her heritage by changing into a red formal gown. We absolutely love when couples incorporate traditions into their wedding day that truly honor who they are as individuals and as a couple. It was an honor to be able to document Rachel in her red dress. She looked truly stunning!
“As a first generation Asian American, I felt like it was important to incorporate a more traditional part of the ceremony considering our not so traditional approach to getting married. The dress (which is traditionally called “cheongsam” or “qipao”) was to honor my Chinese upbringing. Red in Chinese culture symbolizes good luck, happiness, and joy.” – Rachel
After we explored this additional location, we headed back to their Airbnb where they made coffee together. They are both massive coffee lovers so it only made sense to end their incredible Colorado winter elopement relaxing with a hot cup of coffee!
