Colorado has a plethora of awe-inspiring locations to pick from for your dream elopement or wedding! Whether you’re dreaming of hiking into an alpine lake, jeeping around treeline, or professing your love to one another overlooking Rocky Mountain National Park, there is something for everyone in Colorado!! This list of my top five favorite places to get married in Colorado will help streamline your wedding planning for a stress-free experience!
- Northern Colorado
Boulder County is home to some of the most diverse, natural landscapes along the Northern Front Range of Colorado. From visionary open space to breathtaking mountain ranges, Northern Colorado is a perfect place for your elopement or wedding if you want to have a hiking elopement or drive right up to some amazing mountain ranges! This is by far one of my favorite places in Colorado. There are so many gorgeous hikes for the beginner to the expert, all with breathtaking scenery and that quintessential Colorado feel.
Tip for eloping this area: This area is really popular, so I would definitely opt for a sunrise elopement! You can also get amazing star pictures here if you start your hike before the sun rises, creating images that really tell your wedding story!
- Estes Park/Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
Estes Park is known as the base for the Rocky Mountain National Park, is home to wildlife including elk and bears, plus miles and miles of trails. The park’s famous Trail Ridge Road winds past craggy peaks, forests, and tundra. Nearby are the wilderness areas of Roosevelt National Forest. If you are looking for something a little more off the beaten path, there are so many amazing surrounding towns that are full of beautiful elopement spots!
PS: If you are looking for those amazing fall colors with lots of aspen trees for your elopement wedding, this is the place for you!
- Breckenridge, Colorado
Breckenridge, Colorado is home to so many adorable and breathtaking mountain towns! Filled with beautiful forests, amazing hikes, and gorgeous alpine lakes! The close proximity to Denver not only makes Summit County an amazing option for people who are flying into Colorado for the first time and want that quintessential Colorado experience, but for people who have lived in Colorado their whole lives and want to have an elopement experience that is truly representative of Colorado! This is one of my favorite locations in Colorado! There are so many options for every type of elopement or wedding in every season! This area is probably one of my absolute favorite places in Colorado due to the diversity you can get in the landscape just minutes from each other. You can go from alpine lakes to forests in a matter of minutes!
Tips for eloping in this area: Opt for a sunrise elopement as the sun rises and hits the mountains at sunrise, creating this amazing lighting! This is especially important in the summertime as Colorado tends to get afternoon thunderstorms which you don’t want to get caught in at high altitudes. You also will get more privacy at sunrise!
- Silverton, Colorado
If you want an off-the-beaten-path wedding experience with jaw-dropping mountains, this is your place! There are so many hidden gems sprinkled throughout this gorgeous area! Turquoise lakes, big mountains…no wonder they refer to this area as Switzerland of America! If you want to go big, this is the place to do it, you can choose to backpack, jeep, day hike, and so much more. There is nothing quite like being above the tree-line and soaking in Colorado!
Tip for eloping in this area: If you’re interested in eloping here, I would consider a two-day elopement so you really get to experience everything that this area has to offer! You can do a two-day backpacking trip, or stay at a cute Air BnB and fill those days with activities that this area has to offer (like jeeping!)
- Southern Colorado
Looking for a change from the forest scenery? Southern Colorado is the place for you! Great Sand Dunes National Park is one of the most beautiful and unique locations in Colorado! Picture this: You and your soulmate promising yourselves to each other against the backdrop of rugged 14,000′ peaks in the Sangre de Cristo mountains and 30 square mile sand dune field. This is such a great place for people who love the desert feel and want to keep the mountains close! The natural system of the Park ranges from great sand dunes to forests, from cottonwood groves to majestic mountain peaks and tundra. There are also some pretty amazing hikes in those mountains in the background, so if you are looking for an alpine lake hike followed by a fire on the dunes, you can totally do that here! If you’re looking for a little bit of everything and a crazy adventure, this is the place for you!
Tip for eloping in this area: In the summertime, the dunes can get really hot and the afternoon thunderstorms should be avoided so I would recommend a sunrise elopement here. However, in the fall I would recommend experiencing running through the dunes at sunset!
If you are yearning for an unforgettable, off-the-beaten-path wedding experience, Colorado is the place for you!
