If you’re searching for a Denver elopement photographer, here’s something we tell every couple who reaches out from the city: the best elopements near Denver aren’t actually in Denver. They’re in the mountains just outside it. And that’s the best part about being based in Colorado! You’re never more than an hour from something that will take your breath away.
We’re Bailee and Jake, a husband-and-wife Colorado elopement photography and videography team, and we work with couples from Denver all the time. Some fly in specifically to elope in the Rockies. Some have lived here for years and just never knew where to start. Either way, we know exactly where to take you, and this guide covers all of it.
Why Couples Choose to Elope in the Mountains near Denver

Denver is a beautiful city, but when couples come to us looking for a Denver elopement photographer, they’re almost never dreaming of a rooftop or a city park. They’re dreaming of wildflowers and alpine lakes and mountain peaks and that feeling of being completely alone together in the most gorgeous place they’ve ever stood.
The good news is that Denver sits right at the edge of the Rocky Mountains. Rocky Mountain National Park is about 90 minutes away. Brainard Lake is just over an hour. Loveland Pass is less than that. You can wake up in the city, drive into the mountains, get married at sunrise, and be back in Denver for brunch. It’s genuinely one of the most special things about eloping here.
The Best Elopement Locations Near Denver

Here are the spots we photograph most often for couples looking for a Denver elopement photographer who actually knows the mountains.
Rocky Mountain National Park
RMNP is the crown jewel of Front Range elopements. Trail Ridge Road takes you above 12,000 feet with sweeping tundra views in every direction. Bear Lake, Dream Lake, and Emerald Lake offer that classic alpine reflection scene that never gets old. Sprague Lake is flat, accessible, and genuinely stunning at sunrise. If you’re eloping near Denver and you want that iconic Colorado mountain moment, RMNP delivers every single time. A Special Use Permit is required for ceremonies, so we help all our couples get that sorted well in advance.

Brainard Lake Recreation Area
About an hour from Denver, just outside the town of Ward, Brainard Lake sits at 10,500 feet in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. It’s one of our absolute favorite spots for couples who want that high-alpine feel without a strenuous hike. Lake Isabelle and Long Lake are both short walks from the trailhead with dramatic mountain backdrops, and the whole area has a quieter, more intimate feel than some of the more well-known locations. A ceremony permit is required for the wilderness area.

Loveland Pass
Sitting at 11,990 feet on the Continental Divide, Loveland Pass is less than an hour from Denver and gives you that genuine on-top-of-the-world feeling without a single step of hiking. It’s a highway pass so it’s accessible year round, which makes it one of our favorite winter elopement options too. No photography permit required here, which is a nice bonus. The views in every direction are absolutely unreal.

Mount Evans
Mount Evans Scenic Byway is one of the highest paved roads in North America, topping out near 14,000 feet. It’s about an hour from Denver and gives you access to high-alpine tundra, dramatic rocky terrain, and views that stretch for what feels like forever. The summit area is genuinely otherworldly. The road is open late May through early October depending on snowpack.
Evergreen
If you want mountain scenery without the high elevation or a long drive, Evergreen is a beautiful option just 45 minutes from Denver. Evergreen Lake is charming and accessible, the surrounding forest is lush and green, and the whole area has a romantic, tucked-away feel. It’s a great option for couples who want something a little softer and more intimate.
Colorado State Capitol
If you want something a little unexpected, eloping at the Colorado State Capitol is honestly one of the coolest things you can do in Denver. The building itself is stunning, with that iconic gold dome, beautiful architecture, and wide open steps that make for genuinely striking photos. It’s right in the heart of the city, no permit required, and it photographs beautifully especially in the early morning when the streets are quiet and the light is soft. It’s a great option for couples who want to start their day in Denver before heading into the mountains, or for anyone who just loves the idea of something a little more urban and iconic.
Boulder Foothills
The foothills just outside Boulder offer dramatic red rock formations, open meadows, and mountain backdrops that photograph beautifully. Spots like Chautauqua Park and the surrounding open space are stunning, especially in the golden hour light. It’s a little different from the high-alpine look but absolutely gorgeous in its own way.
What to Expect When You Book a Denver Elopement Photographer

When couples come to us as their Denver elopement photographer, here’s how the process works:
We start with a conversation.
We want to know what you’re dreaming of, what feels like you, and what kind of day you actually want to have. Not just the photos, the whole experience.
We help you pick your location.
Based on your vision, your fitness level, the time of year, and what kind of vibe you’re going for, we’ll put together a list of locations that feel right for you. We’ve shot at all of these spots across every season and we know them well.
We handle the logistics.
Permits, timeline, sunrise times, backup plans for weather, what to bring on the hike. We take care of all of it so you can just show up and get married.
We capture both photo and video.
As a husband-and-wife team, Jake handles video and I (Bailee) handles photography, which means you get both covered by one cohesive creative team with no extra coordination on your end.
We deliver something you’ll treasure.
Your gallery and film are the things you’ll share with family, look back on in 20 years, and hang on your walls. We take that seriously.
How to Elope Near Denver: The Logistics

A few practical things worth knowing if you’re planning a Denver-area elopement:
Getting your marriage license:
You can get a Colorado marriage license from any County Clerk and Recorder’s office in the state. Denver’s office works great. It’s valid for 35 days and costs around $30 to $35. Both partners need to appear in person with valid ID.
Self-solemnization:
Colorado allows you to legally marry yourselves with no officiant. You sign your own license as your own witnesses. It’s a beautiful option for elopements and one we guide couples through all the time.
Permits:
Some of the locations above require some kind of permit for ceremonies, depending on your party size. We help every couple navigate this from the beginning so nothing gets missed.
Timing:
For summer elopements above treeline, we almost always recommend a sunrise start to avoid afternoon thunderstorms. For fall and winter, timing is more flexible.
Altitude:
If you’re flying into Denver from sea level, spend at least one night in the city before your elopement day. Going from 0 to 12,000 feet the same morning is hard on your body.
